PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for automatically controlling side mirrors are provided to automatically control the side mirrors by preventing damage to a staring direction detecting device. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for automatically controlling side mirrors comprises an operation selecting switch(101), a staring direction detecting device(102), a motor driving part(103), a control part(104), a sound output part(105), and a memory(106). The staring direction detecting device detects a direction in which a driver stares. The control part controls the motor driving part to control the angle of the side mirrors corresponding to the direction in which the driver stares. The sound output part outputs announcement for controlling the side mirrors. The memory stores information on the control of the side mirror after the side mirrors are completely controlled.
