PURPOSE: A substrate for display devices and a manufacturing method thereof, and liquid crystal display and a manufacturing method thereof implements the aligning process of pattern mask using a ring illumination apparatus, by using light blocking material having predetermined optical transmittance as light blocking pattern composite material, even when a pattern target is a light blocking pattern. CONSTITUTION: An align mark (110) is formed on one side of a substrate (100). A first light blocking pattern layer (120a) is coated on the layer different from the align mark. After a pattern mask is aligned using the align mark, a predetermined first light blocking pattern (120) is formed through a patterning process on the first light blocking pattern layer. The first light blocking pattern is formed with a first light blocking material. The align mark is formed with second light blocking material. The optical transmittance of the first light blocking material is higher than the optical transmittance of the second light blocking material.
