PURPOSE: A separation detecting system between the cars of a train and a method thereof are provided to detect the separation of a train using power line communication through a rail, to be applied to various kinds of trains, and to detect the separation between the cars of a train without the structural change of or damage to existing vehicles. CONSTITUTION: A separation detecting system(400) includes a separation detecting unit(410) which receives a separation detecting signal, which is generated in a first car, and confirms the separation of the first car and the second car based on the received separation detecting signal; an alarm generation part(430) outputting an alarm signal for the first car and the second car. The separation detecting unit receives the detecting signal by using power line communication and receives the separation detecting signal from the first car through a rail on which the first car and the second car run.
