AUTHENTICATION SYSTEM, AUTHENTICATION DEVICE, REGISTRATION DEVICE, AND PORTABLE MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the security level of an authentication system without spoiling convenience of users.

SOLUTION: The authentication system comprises a portable medium which is used by a user and capable of storing information and an authentication device which authenticates whether or not the user is valid on the basis of information stored in the portable medium. The portable medium has an authentication reference information storage section which preliminary stores authentication reference information used as a criterion to authenticate the user. The authentication device has an authentication information generating section which acquires information from the user and generates authentication information, and an authentication section which authenticates whether or not the user is valid on the basis of the degree of match between the authentication information generated by the authentication information generating section with the authentication reference information stored in the authentication reference information storage section, and on the basis of an authentication threshold value predefined for each user as a threshold value to determine whether or not the user to be authenticated.
