<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a high data rate without increasing an operation speed of a horizontal transfer register. <P>SOLUTION: A linear sensor according to this disclosure comprises: a sensor unit provided so that plural unit linear sensors having multiple photoelectric conversion sections are aligned in a main scanning direction; a sensor control section for controlling operations of the unit linear sensors provided to the sensor unit; and a signal processing section for processing electric signals outputted from the unit linear sensors.
