PURPOSE: A system and a method for estimating a position and a direction of an ultrasonic probe are provided to estimate a position and a direction of the ultrasonic probe without additional external devices except for a motion sensor embedded in the ultrasonic probe. CONSTITUTION: A system(100) for estimating a position and a direction of an ultrasonic probe comprises a sensor unit(110) and a position and direction estimating unit(120). The sensor unit embedded in the ultrasonic probe senses the motions of the probe, thereby generating data. The position and direction estimating unit estimates a relative position and direction of the ultrasonic probe with respect to the position and the direction of the ultrasonic probe at the reference time using the data.
