<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water pump capable of controlling seizure of a mechanical seal by positively supplying cooling water to the mechanical seal from an impeller. <P>SOLUTION: The water pump includes a synthetic resin-made drive shaft 6 which is freely rotatably supported in a pump chamber 3 inside a pump housing 2, a synthetic resin-made impeller 7 which is accommodated in the pump chamber, and provided on a small diameter shaft part 6b on the fore end side of the drive shaft, and a mechanical seal disposed between the drive shaft and the pump housing. The impeller includes a base part 7a which is formed in a disk shape, eight blade parts 7b provided on the front side of the base part radially from the side of the center of rotation, and a locking means 21 with one end of the drive shaft being locked and fixed thereto. Four slit parts 25a-26b are penetrated from the front side to a rear surface on the mechanical seal side, and round holes 27a-27d of a rain drop shape are formed on each fore end of each slit part. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
