<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical access assembly. <P>SOLUTION: The surgical access assembly for accessing a cavity of a patient includes: a proximal frame member which is configured for positioning adjacent to an external surface of a tissue, defines a proximal opening penetrating the proximal frame member, is selectively expandable from a contracted condition to an expanded condition, and includes an upper component and a lower component which are configured to engage one another; a distal frame member which is configured to be positioned adjacent to an internal surface of a tissue, and defines a distal opening penetrating the distal frame member; and a membrane which extends between the proximal frame member and the distal frame member, has a distal end coupled to the distal frame member and a proximal end configured to be positioned between the upper component and the lower component of the proximal frame member, and is fixed between the upper component and the lower component by the engagement of the upper component and the lower component of the proximal frame member to one another. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
