<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter from which high brightness and contrast ratio are obtained, a pigment composition for the color filter to be used therefor, and a color composition for the color filter. <P>SOLUTION: A pigment composition for a color filter comprises C.I.Pigment Red 242 and a pigment derivative having a specific structure, and has a specific surface area by a BET method, which is 0.01 m<SP POS="POST">2</SP>/g or more and less than 60 m<SP POS="POST">2</SP>/g.
