PURPOSE: A secondary battery is provided to suppress local heating phenomena by having the current input and output passages opposite to each other, thereby effectively inhibiting the deterioration of the cell. CONSTITUTION: An electrode assembly comprises a positive electrode plate(100) on which positive electrode tabs(113a,133b) are attached in opposite regions; a negative electrode plate(120) on which negative electrode tabs(123a,123b) are attached to opposite regions; and a separator inserted between the positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate. A secondary battery includes an electrode assembly and an exterior material surrounding the electrode assembly. The exterior material includes a first exterior material which is attached to one side of the electrode assembly; and a second exterior material which is attached to the opposite side of the electrode assembly, to surround the electrode assembly.
