<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve highly accurate baud rate adjustment in an electronic device comprising a serial communication circuit. <P>SOLUTION: For example, the bit width of a plurality of bits of reception serial data DBGI is measured by a clock counter CKCUNT, its average value is calculated, and also its maximum value and minimum value are detected (AVGC, MAXD, and MIND). In addition, for example, a maximum allowable value and a minimum allowable value are calculated as about 1.5 times and about 0.5 times the average value respectively, and it is determined whether or not the maximum value and the minimum value are within the range from the maximum allowable value to the minimum allowable value (MXMNJGE).
