<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat belt retractor which can prevent a lock member from coming off from a take-up drum in an assembling process using a small number of components. <P>SOLUTION: The seat belt retractor includes a take-up drum, a lock member which is prevented from rotating in the direction of pulling out webbing when a vehicle collides, and a torsion bar which is deformed torsionally when the take-up drum rotates relative to the lock member. The lock member has a short cylindrical unit carrying a ratchet gear formed on its outer peripheral surface and a flange which extends out radially from one end of the short cylindrical unit closer to the take-up drum and whose outer edge has a circular shape with its center coinciding with the axis of the short cylindrical unit. The lock member is set coaxial with the take-up drum. The take-up drum has one or a plurality of projecting portions erected to face the outer edge of the flange on its end face to which the lock member is attached.
