The device has a control unit for checking whether a blank holder (4) is in a correct working position i.e. clamping position of a sheet (1) before stamping, where the control unit includes a position encoder system (10) and an indexing system (11). An electric device prevents downward movement of a die (3) of a stamping tool when the blank holder is not in the correct working position. The position encoder system is fixed on the blank holder, and the indexing system is fixed on a punch (2) of the stamping tool.
