The mechanism has a friction element (10) that is arranged interdependent of a rotating unit (3), and another friction element (11) that is arranged interdependent of a shaft (1). The friction elements are not coupled to each other in a disconnected position. A readjusting device is utilized for adjusting the shaft in a coupled position in which the friction elements are coupled to each other. The readjusting device includes a permanent magnet that is arranged interdependent of the shaft to induce a sufficient axial magnetic pull to place the shaft in the coupled position. An independent claim is also included for a water pump.
