PURPOSE: A digital broadcasting system and a controlling method thereof are provided to remove a fringe shadow area for a digital broadcasting signal which is caused by an environmental factor and an artificial factor by converting and transmitting a digital broadcasting signal of a 8VSB(8Vestigial Side Band) transmission method of an ATSC(Advanced Television System Committee) standard into a digital broadcasting signal of a COFDM(Code Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) transmission method of a DVB-T(Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial) standard. CONSTITUTION: A transmitter(100) transmits a digital broadcasting signal which is manufactured from a broadcast station in a first transmission method which is the ATSC standard 8VSB transmission method. A relay unit(300) modulates and transmits the digital broadcasting signal which is transmitted from the transmitter in a second transmission method which is the DVB-T standard COFDM transmission method among multiple transmission methods. A receiver(500) receives and displays the digital broadcasting signal which is transmitted in the second transmission method from the relay unit.
