PURPOSE: A position detecting system using an infrared ray including data and an operating method thereof are provided to implement various contents in a display device by including data variously adjusting a screen of the display device in an infrared signal transmitted for calculating position coordinates. CONSTITUTION: A transmitting unit transmits screen adjustment data and position information of a user as an infrared signal. A receiving unit(200) includes receiving sensors(200a-200c) receiving the infrared signal. A control unit(300) detects data for screen adjustment and the position information from the signal to adjust a screen of the display device. A pulse signal generating unit periodically generates a pulse at every frame and a signal delay unit converts the pulse signal into sequential pulse signals. A selecting unit switches the sequential pulse signals to select a logic value and a signal transmitting unit generates and transmits an infrared signal including signals of a high or low level.
