The power generation system (1) has an energy-storage unit (7) for storage of energy which is fed to an inverter (8). The energy-storage unit is provided with battery units (17,18) which are attached at an output unit (6) of a power generator (4). A switch device (31) is provided to interconnect the battery units either in parallel or in series with each other and parallel to the generator. A control device (16) is provided to control the switch device based on the direct voltage power supplied by the generator. An independent claim is included for a method for operating power generation system.
