The operation unit (1) has an input field (3) with a set of touch sensors (2) arranged in matrix manner and partly and independently controlled and evaluated. A touch controlling unit is attached to the operation unit and formed such that the measurement results of touch sensors are evaluated according to contacts and time gap between the contacts. The controlling unit outputs a release signal for controlling a medical device during durations of the two contacts in case of simultaneous contacts or the contacts to be provided with reduced time gap. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a medical device with a touch-sensitive operation unit.
