PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to improve liquid crystal margin by forming a recess part in the protection part of a liquid crystal margin region without using a separate mask. CONSTITUTION: A seal pattern(33) bonds an upper substrate(32) and a lower substrate(31). A liquid crystal layer is filled between the upper substrate and the lower substrate. An alignment layer(34) is formed in a plane facing the upper substrate and the lower substrate and separated from the seal pattern at regular intervals. A recess part(36) is formed in the lower substrate between the alignment layer and the seal pattern.
