摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool with a hard coating layer exhibiting superior chipping resistance and defect resistance in high speed intermittent cutting. <P>SOLUTION: A hard coating layer comprises a chemical vapor deposited lower layer and an upper layer, wherein (a) the lower layer is a Ti compound layer comprising one or two or more layers out of a carbide layer, a nitride layer, a carbonitride layer, a carbooxide layer, and a carbonitroxide layer of Ti and having a total average layer thickness of 3-20 &mu;m, and (b) the upper layer is an aluminum oxide layer having an average layer thickness of 2-25 &mu;m, and wherein the aluminum oxide layer constituting the upper layer has a columnar longitudinal growth oxidized aluminum crystal structure and particulate aluminum oxide is dispersed and distributed in the structure. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
