<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic watch capable of reducing manufacturing costs. <P>SOLUTION: An electronic watch 1 includes: a solar cell 4 for generating electric power by incident light; a secondary cell 3 charged by the electric power generated by the solar cell 4; and a display device 2 that is driven by at least either the electric power generated by the solar cell 4 or the electric power output from the secondary cell 3 and displays time. The solar cell 4 has a plurality of cells 41 individually having the same electromotive voltage. The display device 2 includes: displaying means 21 for displaying the time; and controlling means 22 for controlling drive of the displaying means 21. An electromotive voltage of the solar cell 4 is lower than a deterioration start voltage of the secondary cell 3. An electromotive voltage of the number of cells 41 obtained by subtracting one from a total number of cells 41 possessed by the solar cell 4 is higher than a driving lower limit voltage of the display device 2. A driving voltage of the displaying means 21 is lower than the driving lower limit voltage.
