In an immersion heater of the kind comprising a sheathed wire heating element carried in a heater, the leader 4, Fig. 1 is attached to the rim of the wall 2 of a tank surrounding an aperture therein by means of a split washer 7 which is introduced into the tank through the aperture to lie against the inner surface of the rim and bolts or screwed studs 8 which are passed through aligned bars in header 4 and washer 7, an annular gasket 10 of deformable material being located between the leader and the rim of the aperture in the tank wall 2, the object is to enable the angular position of the heater element within the tank to be determined during insertion, the thermostat being located above the heating element. The gasket 10 is of plastic such as polymerised plastic, e.g. nylon or polythene or of silicone rubber. It has a shoulder 2 and one or more annular projections or corrugations 13 and 14 on both its faces. The washer 7 has a single split Fig. 2 (not shown) or diametrically opposite splits or more than two splits and is bent to introduce it through the tank aperture. The sheathed heater 5 and thermostat 6 are brazed welded or soldered to header 4 which is a brass cup pressing or casting. There may be more than one heating element; the heating element need not be but preferably is of U-shape. The bolts may have internal grooves having sealing rings of deformable material, Fig 3 (not shown). The aperture in the tank wall may be in a separate mounting flange to allow angular adjustments of the header in the tank before the parts are finally secured in place.
