摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refractive index distribution type liquid crystal optical element and a display device with low cost and a simple structure, which can be easily driven. <P>SOLUTION: A refractive index distribution type liquid crystal optical element comprises: a liquid crystal layer held between a first substrate and a second substrate; a plurality of first electrodes 21 provided on the first substrate and arranged in a first direction; a plurality of second electrodes 22 and a plurality of third electrodes 23 arranged in the first direction; and a fourth electrode formed on the second substrate. Each of the third electrodes is provided with a first electrode pair having the first electrode and the second electrode corresponding to the first electrode on one of both sides of the third electrode, and provided with a second electrode pair having the first electrode and the second electrode corresponding to the first electrode on the other side. A distance obtained by adding a first distance P1 between the center of the first electrode pair and the third electrode and a second distance P2 between the center of the second electrode pair and the center of the third electrode is shorter than a third distance P3 between the center of the second electrode pair and the first electrode pair disposed between the third electrode and the closest third electrode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
