<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of quickly starting image formation when being restored by solving a problem in which: when the image forming apparatus shifts to a power-saving mode resulting from disconnection of a power supply during the occurrence of abnormality, and the abnormality is then released while a sensor for detecting abnormality is not supplied with power, it is not possible to determine whether or not the abnormality has been released. <P>SOLUTION: A laser printer includes an abnormality detection unit that detects abnormality such as paper jam, paper shortage, and toner shortage, and a release detection unit that detects release of the abnormality.
