The invention relates to a bottle separator comprising at least a first sheet (1) and at least a second sheet (2) which are provided with complementary interconnectable grooves (3) that define a plurality of bottle housings. The first (1) and second (2) sheets, in accordance with their use position inside the carrier, define an upper edge (4), a lower edge (5) and sides (6). The separator is characterised in that each side (5) of the first (1) and second (2) sheets comprises a lateral projection (7) perpendicular to the upper edge (4). The invention also relates to a method and a machine for positioning the separator in a bottle carrier. The invention can be used to position separators more easily inside bottle carriers.
