The method involves detecting time course of transmission ratio of a power-split transmission (2), and determining actual operating time of a coupling arrangement (31) from the time course of the transmission ratio. The actual operating time is used as an accepted operating time for normal operation of the transmission. An operating time point is determined from the time course of the transmission ratio and the accepted operating time such that a desired end time point is achieved from the operating time point and the accepted time point. An independent claim is also included for a computing unit.
