<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element and a projection liquid crystal display element which are capable of preventing image defects due to light leakage from spacers and have good characteristics of contrast and the like and a satisfactory display performance. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element includes a plurality of pixel electrodes arranged on surfaces facing each other of two substrates so as to form pixels like a matrix, alignment films formed on respective substrates to align a liquid crystal of a liquid crystal layer in a prescribed direction, and spacers 46 formed between adjacent pixel electrodes between respective substrates. A plurality of pixel units each of which includes a first pixel, a second pixel at the center, and a third pixel corresponding to red, green, and blue respectively are arranged in arrays in a first direction orthogonal to an alignment direction and a second direction orthogonal to the first direction. Each spacer is formed in a gap area which is interposed among corner parts of four first and third pixels closest to each other and does not face any pixel, and a diameter of the spacer in the first direction is longer than an interval between the first and third pixels adjacent in the first direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
