The indexing stripes IL, Fig. 3, on a colour television tube screen are formed by the photoresist process using a photoresist material XR which "hardens" under X- or gamma-rays thereby avoiding the difficulties in using ultraviolet light arising from the opacity thereto of the light-reflecting aluminium layer A. Alternatively the layer XR may comprise a mixture of, or two superimposed layers of a material which emits ultra-violet light when subjected to X- or gamma-ray bombardment and of a material which "hardens" under such light.
