A mobile equipment (eg mobile phone) is equipped with multiple Identity Module cards (eg. (U)SIM, (R)UIM, UICC). For example a dual SIM dual standby device. At initial device power on, data (eg. phone book, SMS) is read from a primary SIM into working memory and is available for use whilst reading data from secondary SIMs in the background. SIMs may be associated with a particular device modems (eg. 2G or 3G) and these associations may be swapped whilst the phone is still active by deregistering and reregistering the SIMs with the network with reversed associations. The switch may be initiated from a user menu or in response to operations/services requiring specific SIM/modem pairings. The mobile device can have a SIM Toolkit (STK) command queue which tags commands with a source SIM identifier. Thus, terminal response can be routed back to the original requesting SIM. |
