866,770. Washing gases. HEAT & AIR SYSTEMS Ltd., and WALKER, R. J. March 18, 1959 [Feb. 11, 1958], No. 4499/58. Class 55 (2). In apparatus for washing air, gases and vapours, the gas or vapour to be washed is drawn downwardly on to the surface of a body of liquid in a container 1, and a mixture of gas or vapour and liquid passes upwardly into a chamber 2 and is given a spinning motion by vanes 11, the gas or vapour then passes upwardly through plates 14 (which serve to remove entrained washing liquid) to an outlet 13, while the washing liquid and impurities washed from the gas or vapour are flung against and flow down the walls of the frustoconical portion 3 of the chamber 2 into the container 1. The vanes 11 are secured to a baffle plate 7, which is adjustably mounted on vertical rods 5 fixed to the lower end of the portion 3 of the chamber 2. The vanes may be rotated by mechanical or electrical means.
