A method of making a dielectric material body with a predefined variation in dielectric permittivity in at least one direction comprises of shaping at least one part of a dielectric body 101 in at least one direction and forming, at least partially, the shaped dielectric material body 102 such that it has a predefined variation in dielectric permittivity in at least one direction. The forming process may comprise of reshaping the said body by applying a suitable distribution of expansion or compression forces. The said shaping process may involve cutting or moulding. The dielectric material may be a foam which is provided with an initial shape 101 which is then compressed between two parallel plates 120, 121 to provide a cylindrical body 102 which may vary in height. The dielectric body may be used as a dielectric material lens of varying permittivity from a central material 130 to the peripheral material 132. Varying gas cavities may be introduced to the said dielectric material body. Two parallel metallic enclosure plates may be provided to act as waveguides or shielding members. The dielectric material body may be used in a millimetre-waves multi-beam forming antenna system. |
