A programme control apparatus for a machine tool comprises a rotatable hollow drum 3 having parallel longitudinal slots 12 in the ray path between a light source 7 and a photoelectric cell 8. The photo-electric devices are both adjustable on an adjustable support 14. The drum 3 is indexed by ratchet means 4, 6. As a slide 2 carrying the drum is traversed, the light rays are interrupted at some point by an adjustable stop 9 in the operative slot, causing a switch to be operated, to control a drill depth feed or to alter a work or tool feed speed and index the drum. The drum may be traversed at a slower rate than the slide by reduction gearing.</p> |
