摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device improved in an external light reflectance in a reflection mode without affecting display brightness in a transmission mode. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with a substrate 1 placed on an observer side, a substrate 3 placed on a light source 2 side, a liquid crystal layer 5, which is placed in a clearance between the both substrates and changes the orientation direction according to a voltage applied to an electrode 4 formed in at least one substrate 3, a pair of polarizing plates 6 and 7 arranged to put the liquid crystal layer between them, a color filter 8 formed in the substrate 3 on one side, and a semi-reflection semi-transmission film 9 arranged between the liquid crystal layer 5 and the color filter 8. The semi-reflection semi-transmission film 9 is arranged closer to the observer side than to the color filter 8 and is provided with reflection properties different from those of transmission colors of the color filter 8. The color filter 8 has RGB transmission colors. The semi-reflection semi-transmission film 9 transmits wavelength components corresponding to the RGB transmission colors and reflects light with a wavelength component different from the wavelength components corresponding to the RGB transmission colors. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
