In a power steering system the control valve bobbin 2 Fig. 1 is arranged between the end walls 14, 15 to provide parallel flow passages 16, 17, 18, 19 between the supply and return connections 8, 20 and closure means such as "O" rings 23 are provided in the passage 16, 17 so that as one of the flow paths 18, 19 is restricted on one side by movement of the bobbin 2 the flow to the return is closed on the other side. The bobbin 2 is rotatably mounted by ball bearings 3 on the steering column 1 for axial movement therewith due to the axial thrust of a ball nut 33 Fig. 2 in the mechanical steering system. The bobbin 2 is biased to the neutral position by spring washers 22 and steering feel is provided by the fluid pressure acting on opposite ends of the bobbin 2 and may be varied by change of diameter of the "O" rings 23. The servomotor piston' 27 is arranged coaxially over the steering column 1 and is directly connected with the steering nut 33. Passages 24, 25, 28 connect the valve to opposite ends of the piston 27.</p> |
