In a mouse or like trap a wire snap spring b is held by a catch c which is prevented from release movement by means of a piece of cotton which is stretched across the mouth of a bore a<SP>1</SP> in the body section of the trap. In order to reach bait which is placed in the bore a<SP>1</SP> the mouse eats through the cotton so releasing the catch c and allowing the spring b to snap down and destroy the mouse.
