Tobacco impelled from a pair of side-by-side hoppers 3, Fig. 2, is intercepted by a pair of obliquely disposed baffles 11, 12, which direct the tobacco downwardly on to a conveyer 10. Each hopper is provided with a separate feed mechanism comprising carding and picker rollers 6, 7, and the tobacco is impelled sideways across the conveyer 10 and against the baffles 11, 12, by picker wheels 9. Different tobaccos may be fed by the two hoppers at different rates to produce a desired blend in the resultant stream formed on the conveyer 10 and fed to a suction type tobacco filler forming apparatus such as that described in Specification 895,733. |
