PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress increase of the number of IO ports of a CPU.

SOLUTION: When there is no sheet in a sheet cassette, an NPN type transistor 16 is brought into an ON state by a signal output from a sheet sensor 11. When there is no toner in a toner container, a PNP type transistor 17 is brought into an ON state by a signal output from a toner sensor 12. The presence of sheets in the sheet cassette is determined on the basis of a digital signal DS converted from an analog signal AS input in an analog port 22a of an analog-digital conversion unit 21. When it is determined that there are sheets in the sheet cassette, the presence of the toner is determined on the basis of the digital signal.
