<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection circuit that reduces a risk against a load side short circuit. <P>SOLUTION: According to an embodiment, the protection circuit includes: a current control element disposed in a feed path from a power supply to a load; a PNP transistor adapted to turn on/off on current detection; a capacitor connected to a collector of the transistor and to a ground potential; a start switch for outputting an on level or an off level of a logic level; a logic circuit for identifying whether a bias voltage of the current control element is on/off on the basis of the output level of the start switch and a logic level based on an electrical charge of the capacitor; a switch element disposed between the transistor and the capacitor; and a delay circuit for generating a start signal with a delayed on level of the start switch. The current control element turns on/off according to the on/off of the bias voltage. The transistor turns on when a current flowing through the feed path exceeds a predetermined level.
