<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of shape distortion in a character part in striping noise removal processing. <P>SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus comprises: a stripe detection unit 51 that detects stripe pixels; a region separation processing unit 25 that determines a pixel in a character region; and a stripe interpolation processing unit 53 that sets a pixel excepting the pixel in the character region and a pixel whose distance from the pixel in the character region is within a first range among the stripe pixels to an interpolation target stripe pixel, and replaces the interpolation target stripe pixel with a pixel other than the stripe pixels included in input image data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
