<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abrasive that reduces the amount of cerium oxide, while ensuring abradability of glass, etc. <P>SOLUTION: The abrasive includes complex abrasive grains comprising a core portion formed of base particles comprising zirconium oxide, and a shell portion formed by coupling or generating, on the outer surface of the base particles, fine particles smaller in grain size than the base particles and comprising cerium oxide. The complex abrasive grains contain the fine particles comprising cerium oxide, in the shell portion that affects the abradability, and contain zirconium oxide particles (base particles) lower in specific gravity, in the core portion that does not directly affect the abradability. Thus, cerium oxide is reduced in quantity while ensuring the abradability of the cerium oxide, and besides, the dispersion stability of the complex abrasive grains in a slurry is also improved, thereby improving abradability. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
