A cooling system (100) comprising: a cooling water basin (102); a heat exchange element (104) arranged above the cooling water basin (102), the heat exchange element (104) comprising a flowing medium to be cooled; a pump arrangement (106) for transporting cooling water from the cooling water basin (102) to at least one nozzle (108); wherein the at least one nozzle (108) is positioned to eject cooling water onto at least a portion of the heat exchange element (104); an air ionizer (110) positioned to provide ionized air in contact with droplets (112) of cooling water falling from the heat exchange element (104) towards the cooling water basin (102); and at least one substrate (114) arranged in the cooling water basin (102), the at least one substrate (114) being at least partly in contact with the cooling water, wherein the at least one substrate (114) is coated with a material comprising a biocide. |
