<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of detecting abnormality of detaching operation of a white reference plate to color measuring means without newly installing a sensor. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus determines abnormality of attaching operation of a white reference plate 230 by a white reference plate attaching/detaching motor 314 on the basis of a measurement value of a color sensor 200 in a state where the white reference plate 230 is attached to the color sensor 200.
