<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that can improve the display quality. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device comprises: a first substrate; a second substrate; and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate includes: a switching element disposed for each of pixels; a common electrode formed across the plural pixels; an insulation film disposed on the common electrode and having a penetration hole penetrating to reach the common electrode; a pixel electrode which is electrically connected to the switching element, the pixel electrode being provided for each pixel to face the common electrode on the insulation film, and having a slit on the penetration hole; and a first alignment film covering the pixel electrode and the common electrode which is exposed from the insulation film at the penetration hole. The second substrate includes a second alignment film facing the first alignment film.
