<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound needle for a flat knitting machine in which a space on one side of a curved portion of a sliding resistance imparting plate part is hardly expanded toward the other side by accumulation of dust, and which can delay work for removing the dust from inside the space. <P>SOLUTION: In a compound needle 1, a slider 3 includes: a slider base 31; two blades 32 and 33 which are supported by the slider base 31 and each extend rearward; a sliding resistance imparting plate part 37 which has a front end integrally connected to one of the blades 32 and 33 and extends rearward, and which has a curved portion 371 brought into sliding contact with a needle plate to impart sliding resistance; a fixing part 43 which is provided on the slider base 31 and fixes the front end of the sliding resistance imparting plate part 37 from one side; and a sliding contact part 44 which is provided on the slider base 31 and allows the rear end of the sliding resistance imparting plate part 37 to come into sliding contact therewith from the one side. The slider base 31 includes a connecting part 311 which extends above the curved portion 371 to connect the fixing part 43 and the sliding contact part 44.
