<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary drive device that is capable of operating silently and achieving low voltage drive and power saving. <P>SOLUTION: A rotary drive part (60) of a rotary drive device generates linear advance/retreat motion through expansion/contraction of a conductive polymer actuator (1), converts the advance/retreat motion into rotary motion in a forward/backward direction using a gear (3a) or the like, and drives an output axis (37) to unidirectionally rotate by converting the rotary motion in the forward/backward direction into unidirectional rotary motion using another actuator (19a, 19b, 20a, 20b, 21a, 21b, 22a, 22b) or the like.
