[Also in Group XXXVI] A grommet 1 comprises a pair of ring elements 2 disposed on opposite sides of a panel C around the margins A of an opening B, at least one arcuate tongue 3 extending from each element 2 through the opening B and into the other element 2, and at least one arcuate recess in each ring element 2 to receive the tongue or tongues 3 of the other element 2. In one form shown (Fig. 2) there are two tongues 3 and two recesses 4 and when urged together, ribs 7 and grooves 8 interlock. The ends 6 of the tongues 3 have ribs 9, the tongues having sloping faces at the circumferential ends so that the element expand in the opening. These ends have interlocking ribs 9 which mate with grooves 10 for maximum interlocking. In a modified form (Fig. 4), the ribs 7 and 9 and grooves 8 and 10 are omitted and there is a shallow channel 11 around the outer surfaces of the tongues 3, expansion occurring to give an interlocking fit on interengagement of the elements 2. The grommet elements 2 are moulded of synthetic resin, and may be such as will bond together with an adhesive or a solvent. |
