<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable assist control of properly reflecting an intention of a driver. <P>SOLUTION: In an EPS (electric power steering) system 1, a target assist torque arithmetic operation section 20 arithmetically operates a target current of indicating target assist torque of a value corresponding to steering torque based on the steering torque Ts detected by a torque sensor, and a motor driving circuit 50 drives a motor 6 based on the arithmetically operated target current. A steering angle sensor detects a steering angle θs, a differentiator 62 arithmetically operates steering angular velocity ωs, and a steering state quantity arithmetic operation section 22 arithmetically operates a steering state quantity based on the steering angle θs and the steering angular velocity ωs. The target assist torque arithmetic operation section 20 changes the target current of indicating the target assist torque based on the arithmetically operated steering state quantity.
