PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for accurately recognizing the behavior of a medium.

SOLUTION: A medium recognition device for recognizing a medium to be conveyed includes: a conveyance part for conveying a medium by driving a predetermined power source; a line sensor arranged like a line in a direction which intersects a direction of conveyance of the medium for reading at least a part of the appearance of the medium to be conveyed; a medium image acquisition part for acquiring an image generated on the basis of a signal to be obtained from the line sensor as a medium image; an operation part for operating in accordance with a conveyance real speed as a real speed when the medium is conveyed; an operating image acquisition part for acquiring an operating image imaged by reading the operation part at predetermined intervals when the medium is read by the medium image acquisition part; a parameter acquisition part for acquiring a parameter on which the conveyance real speed is reflected by analyzing the operating image; and a medium recognition part for recognizing the medium image on the basis of the acquired parameter.
