PURPOSE: An automatic printing backup method of an image forming apparatus is provided to process backup printing by transmitting printing data to a different image forming apparatus connected through a network when a printing work of the printing data is stopped by an error of the image forming apparatus, thereby preventing loss of the printing work. CONSTITUTION: A first image forming apparatus receives predetermined printing data through a user interface unit from a host computer(S210). The first image forming apparatus displays the state of the first image forming apparatus through a display panel(S220). In case there is an error in the first image forming apparatus, the first image forming apparatus selects a second image forming apparatus connected through a network and determines whether an error occurs in the second image forming apparatus(S230,S232). In case there is not an error in the second image forming apparatus, the first image forming apparatus transmits the printing data to the second image forming apparatus. The second image forming apparatus receives and processes the printing data(S242).
