PURPOSE: A device and method for controlling an obstruction detection zone are provided to estimate whether or not a trailer is mounted and the length of the mounted trailer based on a distance from a following vehicle due to velocity in order to control the zone, thereby normally operating a blind spot detection (BSD) system and a lane change assist (LCA) system regardless of whether or not the trailer is mounted. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling an obstruction detection zone is mounted on a vehicle. The device includes a storing unit(10), a distance measuring unit(20), a velocity measuring unit(30), and a detection zone controlling unit(40). The storing unit stores the information of a distance between the vehicle and a following vehicle according to the velocity of the vehicle on which the device is mounted. The distance measuring unit measures the distance. The velocity measuring unit measures the velocity. The detection zone controlling unit estimates the length of a trailer with computing the differences of the distances corresponding to the velocities measured by the velocity measuring unit, and then controls the obstruction detection zone using the estimated length of the trailer.
